Save Shaker Aamer Campaign Demonstration - End the Guantanamo Torture Olympics
SAVE SHAKER AAMER CAMPAIGN
DEMONSTRATION ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH, FROM 1PM TO 3PM
OPPOSITE THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT, PARLIAMENT SQUARE, LONDON
British Resident Shaker Aamer has been tortured in Guantanamo every day for over ten years. We are protesting on Monday September 10th, to demand his release and return to the UK and to draw attention to the cruel and inhuman abuse he has suffered in violation of all international, UK and US laws.
The whole world, apart from a few dictators, has been welcome to London for the Olympics and the Paralympics. Shaker Aamer, whose home is in London, has remained in his steel cell in solitary confinement in Guantanamo, despite facing no charge or trial. The London Paralympics will end on September 9th. We are want the world to know that the Guantanamo Torture Olympics never end for Shaker Aamer and for those who remain in Guantanamo in indefinite detention.
From de-classified documents released by Shaker's lawyers, Shaker has stated that he continues to suffer from the following methods of torture including beatings, stress positions, temperature extremes, sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, brutal forced feeding, denial of comb, toothbrush, cup, daily forced extraction from cell to cell and forced nudity. His lawyers have reported seeing evidence of recent beatings on Shaker's face and body. Clive Stafford Smith OBE, Director of the legal charity
Reprieve, has stated that that Shaker is slowly dying in Guantanamo from his many serious medical conditions resulting from his "years of horrible abuse."
We demand that the UK Government requires the US to release Shaker Aamer before it is all too late. All the other UK Guantanamo prisoners have been released. Why is Shaker Aamer not back home with his family in London?
We are calling for Shaker Aamer's immediate release, an end to torture and abuse in Guantanamo and for the Torture Team of Guantanamo Bay to be made accountable for crimes against humanity.
